Inspections FAQ

Any person residing in a property within the City of Berkeley |
|
|
Before a person is allowed to move into a property, located in the City of Berkeley, the property must be inspected by a City of Berkeley Inspector. The cost of the Occupancy Inspection is Fifty-Five Dollars ($55.00). The Inspection can be ordered at the Inspections department of the City of Berkeley. The inspection will then be performed within 24 - 48 hours. NOTE: The Inspection MUST be ordered by the Property Owner. IF the property owner is not able to order his inspection, then a notorized letter must be presented stating who is authorized to order inspections, and transact other business pertaining to the property, on behalf of the owner. * Once the property has passed its inspection, then the inspection is valid for Thirty Days (30).
* The next step is to obtain an OCCUPANCY PERMIT. The occupancy permit can be obtained at the Inspections Department of the City of Berkeley. This Occupancy Permit must be obtained BEFORE anyone moves into the property. *The Cost of the permit is Forty Dollars ($40.00) for Owner Occupied residents. *The following Documents are needed to show proof of ownership: a current Copy of a Deed of Trust (obtained from St. Louis County) OR Copy of the HUD Statement (located in your closing documents) AND a valid drivers license/Identification card. *The following items are needed before a tenent moves into a rental property;Ten dollars ($10.00) for your occupancy permit AND a Landlord Authorization Form from your Landlord, AND A valid Drivers License/ Identification Card |

If the change {add, change, delete} is to be performed by an owner/occupant, then the owner needs to present their valid identification and a fee of Ten Dollars ($10.00) If the person requesting the change is a tenant, then the tenant must bring a signed Landlord Authorzation Form and then , and only then, will the changes be made. Again, a Ten Dollar ($10.00) fee will be charged for making the changes. |

The Following dogs are banned and may not be kept within the City of Berkeley, Missouri: {unless there is proof that the dog was in the City of Berkeley before February 7, 2005} Section 1. Certain Dogs Prohibited. the following dogs may not be kept within the City of Berkeley, MO:
1. Any "pit bull dog" being defined to mean:
(a) The Bull Terrier breed of dog
(b) The Staffordshire Bull Terrierbreed of dog
(c) The American Staffordshire Terrier breed of dog
(d) The American Pit Bull Terrier breed of dog
(e) Dogs of mixed breed or other breeds than listed above which breed is mixed breed is known as pit bulls, pit bull dogs or pitbull terrier; or
(f) Any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly of the breeds of Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Amierican Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, any other breeds commonly known as pit bulls, pit bull dogs or pit bull terriers, or a combination of any of these breeds.
2. Rottweiler breed, including dogs of mixed breed and any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly of the Rottweiler breed.
Section 2. Punishment. the owner or keeper of any of the above defined dogs found within the city limits of the City of Berkeley may be punished by a fine of up to One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) AND may be jailed for up to Ninety (90) days OR BOTH. Additionally, the dog or dogs shall be immediately confiscated by the Animal Control Officer of the City, If a violation of this Ordinance continues, each day's violation shall be deemed a separate violation.
