This position require skills in Pre-hospital treatment of patients.

Rendering of pre-hospital emergency medical care and advanced life support measures to victims of accidents, fires or other emergency calls for service.  This work is performed under stressful conditions in emergency situations where human life is in danger.  Advanced life support work is performed through direct communication with (Medical Control) a physician at a nearby hospital and conforming to the standards set by the legislature of the State of Missouri in the 190.100-190.195 revised statutes as concerning emergency medical services.  The work performed under the direction of the emergency department physician.  In majority of cases, the paramedic is the most qualified medical authority on the scene. He/she must be able to understand the legal responsibilities and direct the operations in the best interest of the patient. 



 Responds to fire alarms with a company.

  • Administers first aid.
  • Renders Basic or Advanced life support to injured persons.
  • Uses advanced life support techniques and equipment.
  • Communicates with the hospital via telemetry and carriers out the specific orders in the interest of the patient.


Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.  Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Must have a State of Missouri Paramedic license. Must have current valid BLS and ACLS. Current PALS and PHTLS certification and CPR certification through American Heart Association required.

You may be given an opportunity to attend the St. Louis County Fire Academy and be sponsored by the City of Berkeley upon completion of initial probation and job performance.
