Position:     Sergeant

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for directing and supervising the on-duty patrol shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that the on-duty patrol shift is adequately staffed.
  • Ensure that the on-duty personnel have the appropriate equipment to perform their duties.
  • Assign personnel to specific duties or patrol sectors.
  • Provide personnel with proper direction.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, policies, rules and regulations.
  • Provide staff with appropriate administrative reports and documentation.
  • Maintain open communications with the public, as well as, their officers.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 Thorough knowledge of controlling laws and ordinances.

  • Considerable knowledge of modern police practices and methods, including the use and care of firearms.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action to be taken.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain minimum proficiency in the use of firearms.
  • Good interpersonal relations skills

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For Examination Participation

For this position, officers holding the rank of corporal or a patrolman with 5 years’ experience beyond the probationary period will be eligible to participate.

 To be Consideration Must Have the Following:  

 Rank of corporal or a patrolman with 5 years’ experience beyond the probationary period;

 60 hours of coursework from an accredited college or university 

 

All candidates must submit a copy of their degree or official transcript (with signature and/or seal affixed) prior to the closing date. 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid Missouri driver's license.

30% Written Test

35% Oral Interview

35% City Manager’s Evaluation

SALARY: This is an exempt position. Starting salary is $67,500 which include holiday pay. Health and dental benefits, as well as vacation, sick leave, and other benefits are available to the employee and his/her family subject to current city policy for exempt employees.
